Preconception Management
Detailed review of current health and medical history that aims to identify and modify biomedical, behavioral and social risks to the woman’s health or pregnancy outcome. Interventions for prevention and management are tailored to the woman’s health before conception to maximize pregnancy outcomes.
Ultrasound // Prenatal diagnosis // Genetic Counseling
A non-invasive procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to evaluate fetal growth and development.
When indicated, a detailed high-resolution fetal ultrasound is performed to confirm a suspected condition.
Ultrasound examinations include:
Anatomical survey of the fetus
Fetal growth examination
First-trimester ultrasound evaluations
Biophysical profile (BPP) for fetal well-being when indicated.
Gynecologic, pelvic examinations.
Cervical Insufficiency/Incompetence
Cervical insufficiency is a weakness of the cervix that leads to the inability to carry a pregnancy to full term. Often the delivery is before the fetus can survive outside of the womb. The symptoms of labor are painless until delivery is imminent. The treatment for this condition is cerclage that is curative.
Diabetes Management
While there is no cure for diabetes with proper management it can be treated and controlled.
Blood pressure may increase with diabetes and should be closely monitored.
Blood glucose levels should be as near normal as possible by balancing food intake and activity, and medication when indicated.
Maintaining blood cholesterol and triglyceride (lipid) levels as near to normal range.
Preventing or decreasing the development of diabetes-related health conditions.
Recurrent Pregnancy loss
Historically defined as three consecutive pregnancy losses prior to 20 weeks from the last menstrual period. However, present-day medicine tells us that a woman that has 2 consecutive losses is at risk for another, and requires investigation into the cause. Dr. Demasio further expands this definition to include women with a poor reproductive history such as recurrent premature deliveries, recurrent episodes of pre-eclampsia (high blood pressure and protein in the urine affecting pregnancy), and stillbirths, all require investigation.
